SOPs of Dental Radiography
Rationale
To provide DSAs with knowledge of radiographic techniques, safety measures, and patient management to support diagnostic accuracy.
Learning Objectives
- Apply radiation safety principles (e.g., shielding, dosage control).
- Position patients correctly for various types of radiographs.
- Operate and maintain radiographic equipment.
- Ensure patient comfort and explain procedures.
- Recognize basic image findings and maintain regulatory compliance.
DSA Program Evaluation
- Program evaluation for Dental Surgery Assistants (DSAs) are conducted through structured feedback Proformas after trainning sessions. In addition, continuous feedback from supervising dentists, faculty, and clinical staff provides valuable insights into the DSA’s performance on DSA evaluation proforma is recorded on daily basis.
- This feedback, both formative and summative, allows for timely identification of strengths and areas needing improvement.
- Periodic WPBAs such as Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS), and Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercises (Mini-CEX) are utlized after 3 months to offer real-time, contextual assessment of the assistant’s skills in actual clinical settings. These tools help track progress, ensure alignment with learning outcomes, and promote reflective learning. Together, feedback and WPBAs support a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to evaluating the effectiveness of the DSA training program and fostering professional growth.
